21 Day Sugar Detox Book by Diane Sanfilippo
In response to slightly over-doing the seasonal sweets this summer, Rick and I decided to do a no-sugar challenge. I’m not sure how it came up but we decided to tackle the 21 Day Sugar Detox created by Diane Sanfilippo. Being an avid reader I don’t simply skim cookbooks. I read cookbooks like novels, take in their photos and fantastic ideas, and in general get very excited about the newer recipes I’ll add to my arsenal. Cookbooks are awesome!
There are already many reviews of her book so I’ll keep mine brief. First let me say that The 21 Day Sugar Detox book is amazing. It’s set up in such a wonderfully simple way. You can tackle it at any point – whether you are coming from a Standard American Diet(SAD), or coming from already being paleo – as I was. There are three levels and directions for each level. Diane tells you, more than once, that you don’t have to go all hard core and choose the most difficult level. In fact, if you are coming from it from eating a SAD diet then choosing the “easy” level is recommended so that you don’t get horribly overwhelmed by too many changes. Also, you can do the 21 Day Sugar Detox as many times as you need, it’s meant as a tool to help curb sugar cravings. It can become a supporting part of a dietary change.
Beyond that, the recipes are simple without being boring. This lady knows her herbs and spices! It’s not that I expected the recipes to be completely dull. However, it’s not uncommon for my taste preferences to be different from a cookbook author. Across the board, the recipes are good enough to stand on their own, whether or not one is doing a 21 Day Sugar Detox.
Verdict: awesome-sauce! It became a favorite of mine very quickly. Being a small space dweller, I am careful to pick books that are actually useful to me. This one is worth owning for sure.
